More than 650 million kunas for projects and programs of civil society organizations

Government of Croatia, at the session that took place on 23rd July 2015, adopted the Report on Financing of Projects and Programs of Civil Society Organizations from Public Sources in 2014.


Data was collected from 32 state institutions who reported allocations worth more than 650 million kunas for projects and programs of civil society organizations in 2014. This amount included revenues from lottery funds 351.415.999,72 kunas (54.01%) and state budget funds – 292.735.739,97 kunas (44.99%).

Most of the funds were allocated for ​​supporting people with disabilities, people with special needs and socially disadvantaged groups - almost 23% of the total amount (142.912.017,56 kunas). This is by far the largest amount of resources available for government bodies directed to persons with disabilities which shows strategic commitment of the Croatian Government to care for the most vulnerable groups of citizens, in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Next area with the most allocations received is ​​sport associations, funded with 134.959.189,46 kunas (21.6%) while projects aimed to protect and promote cultural, historical and cultural assets and nature conservation received allocation of 114.935.272,46 kunas (18.4%).

Furthermore, in 2014, 4.517 persons were employed through funded programs and projects, and temporary jobs included additionally 2.926 employed people. Special worth lies in the fact the implementation of funded projects and programs involved more than 50,000 volunteers.

Progress was made during 2014 in joint, central planning of the Government's priorities for financing of projects and programs from the state budget, in particular in the work of the Government's Interdepartmental Commission for policy coordination of financing NGO projects, implementation of the Government's Regulation on criteria for determining the beneficiaries and the manner of distribution of revenues from lottery games, harmonization of tender documents among state bodies and better planning of priorities for financing between state bodies.
