European Commission has opened the Public Consultation on the EU Civil Society Strategy which runs until 5 September 2025.
The EU Civil Society Strategy, which is currently in the process of shaping, would provide a comprehensive framework for working in protection and support to civil society on the level of the EU, as well as the member states. It would also anticipate concrete actions for resolving problems of civic space decreasing for CSOs and human rights defenders active in the promotion and protection of EU values.
Strategy will identify needs and challenges with what civil society actors have been facing and mapping current measures and theirs advantage and weaknesses. It goal is to strengthen and protect the CSOs that face with challenges such as limitation in funding, negative campaigns and SLAPP suit, to create enabling environment for activists and organisations that promote human rights, democracy and rule of law, as well as to improve the cooperation of civil society and EU institutions including facilitate cross-border projects.
The European Commission has announced the adoption of the Strategy in the third quarter of the year 2025. The interested public (citizens and organisations) is invited to participate in shaping of the strategy through online questionnaire until 5 September 2025.
