More than HRK 20 million to the CSOs' projects in the field of STEM and local community development
In the Bogdan Ogrizović Library and Reading Room in Zagreb, the contracts on the implementation of projects within the two Calls for grants „Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to promote STEM“ and „Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to respond to local needs“ were signed.
On the occasion of completion of the part of project contracting process referring to the two Calls for grants „Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to promote STEM“ and „Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to respond to local needs“, the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs (GOfNGOs) organised a formal contracts award ceremony, on 30 December 2021. The contracted projects are worth more than HRK 20 million and are co-financed from the European Social Fund and the State Budget in the position of the GOfNGOs.
The contracts signatoires were welcomed by the Member of the Croatian Parliament and the Chairman of the Parliament Committee for Regional Development and EU Funds, Marko Pavić, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy, Dragan Jelić, Head of the GOfNGOs, Helena Beus and the representatives of the ESIF Managing and Controlling System bodies in the Republic of Croatia in the period 2014-2020.
Luka Bogdan, Deputy Director of the National Foundation for the Civil Society Development emphasized that this is the largest investment in children and youth in the area of STEM so far. He also pointed out the importance of CSOs activities in earthquake-affected areas whose projects will contribute to society reconstruction.
Head of the GOfNGOs, Helena Beus explained that HRK 150 million were ensured from the European Social Fund for the Call „Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to promote STEM“ and HRK 120 million concerning the Call „Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to respond to local needs“. She also stressed that the projects contracted today contribute to strengthening of the CSOs capacities to deal with crisis situations, as well as organising activities in order to provide citizens with services of common good adapted to the new situation.
Dragan Jelić, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy stated that by the investments from the Operational Programme „Efficient Human Resources“ for the financial period 2014-2020 it is highlighted the importance and need for the civil sector involvement, for which almost HRK 556 million within 374 contracts under priority axis 4. Good Governance, while within the entire Operational Programme contracts were signed by 1775 CSOs. He added that in the new financial period 2021-2027 CSOs will have a significant role in using funds.
Marko Pavić, the Member of the Croatian Parliament and the Chairman of the Parliament Committee for regional development and EU Funds, emphasized the importance of CSOs contribution in these two areas, especially in the STEM, where key competences for the labour market are being developed. He expressed support and wished the beneficiaries successful implementation of the contracted projects.
