The roundtable “Perspectives of Supporting Civil Society Development in Croatia” held on 11 February 2008 in Zagreb

The roundtable “Perspectives of Supporting Civil Society Development in Croatia” was held on 11 February 2008 in Zagreb at the Hotel Westin. The roundtable was organized by the Office for Cooperation with NGOs of the Government of the Republic of Croatia under the auspices of the DECIM initiative launched jointly by the World Bank and the European Commission.

The aim of this Roundtable was to initiate the discussion on the possibilities to achieve effective synergies among the representatives of the donor community, public and private agencies that foster civil society development in Croatia. The organization of this meeting corresponds with the process of reforms, initialized by the National Strategy for the Creation of an Enabling Environment for Civil Society Development from 2006 to 2011 and the Operational Implementation Plan, adopted by the Croatian Government in July 2006 and February 2007, respectively. It also follows the valuable efforts undertaken recently within the framework of the DECIM (Donor Exchange, Coordination and Information Mechanism), which is a voluntary donor coordination process that informally associates private and public actors who hold financial resources, and/or expertise and analytical capacity, and actively support the development of civil society in the region, by working with civil society organizations and/or public sector entities that have an impact on civic space.

Following the outcomes of the Fourth International DECIM meeting held in Cavtat in September 2007, the Office for Cooperation with NGOs intends to initiate regular consultation meetings with key public and private actors interested in contributing to the sustainability of civil society support in Croatia.
