Conference “Local Governance Tailored to Citizens – From Open Government to an Active Community”
The Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs is organizing the conference "Local self-government tailored to citizens - from open government to active community", which will be held on April 24, 2026 at the European Parliament Office in Croatia (Ulica Tome Bakača 3).
The conference is being held within the framework of the Open Government Partnership initiative, and is dedicated to participatory governance, fiscal openness and the development of smart cities. Its aim is to encourage the exchange of experiences and good practices among local government units in the area of citizen involvement in decision-making processes, with a special emphasis on participatory and deliberative governance models at the local level.
Representatives of the City of Zagreb and the City of Pazin, as well as colleagues from the Open Government Partnership, will participate in the conference. Representatives of the City of Helsinki, as well as representatives of local units from other Croatian and European cities, will also present their experiences in the application of deliberative and participatory governance models.
We invite you to join representatives of local and regional units, as well as experts, researchers and civil society organizations in order to learn about and exchange examples of good practice in opening up public administration to citizens, as well as examples of encouraging active citizen participation and participatory mechanisms in decision-making processes.
We kindly ask you to confirm your participation in the conference at: pov@udruge.vlada.hr, no later than April 17, 2026.
