Council of Europe is Drawing up a Code of Participation of Public in Decision-Making Process

Conference of international NGOs, an expert body of the Council of Europe, is drawing up the Code of Good Practice of Participation of Public, a document whose main purpose is to contribute to the creation of enabling environment for functioning of civil society organizations. By this document, one aims to prescribe at the European level a set of general principles and guidelines for participation of civil society organizations in the process of decision-making. The Code will be applied at national and local levels, comprising the Council of Europe Member States and Belorussia.

Momentarily, regional consultations with interested civil society organizations are underway, aimed at gathering their reports onto the Draft of the Code, whilst the finalization of the Draft is expected in spring 2009.
