European Commission adopted the EU Strategy for Civil Society

European Commission adopted the EU Strategy for Civil Society, which goal is to strengthening cooperation with CSOs, as well as ensuring the open and safe environment for their work in the European Union and outside.
The Strategy brings a series of concrete measures at the level of the European Union, including:
  • Establishing of the Platform for Civil Society as the central space for regular and structural dialogue between the Commission and the organisations working in the area of human rights and democracy promotion;
  • 10 new principles for dialogue with Civil Society, intended to strengthen transparency, inclusive ness and consistency in the work of all EU institutions
  • Development of On-line Hub for civic space, which will made possible better approach to current tools, projects and resources for protection and support to CSOs;
  • Cooperation with Member States on strengthening the capacity and protection of CSOs, as well as monitoring the situation in which they operate
The Strategy also anticipates improvements in the area of financing of CSOs. Within the next multi-annual financial framework (2028-2034) 9 billion Euros have been planned for the new AgoraEU programme, which will support promotion of European values, media freedom and active civil society. In the area of the EU external action, the strengthening of support to CSOs throughout the world, especially through working of the EU delegations, have been announced.
