Held workshop on regional networking „Connecting Neighbors 2020 – Writing the EU story together“

Governmetn Office for NGOs, as the contact point of the Europe for Citizens program in Croatia in the cooperation with the contact points from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia organised and held the online workshop of regional networking „Connecting Neighbours 2020 – Writing the EU story togheter“ on 22 and 23 July 2020.
 
The goal of the workshop was to inform the participants on the posibilities of the Europe for Citizens Program as well as to promote and motivate the regional approach in solving common problems as one of the important instruments for strengthening cooperation.
 
In addition, previous successful applicants – the Association Mi from Split and Foundation Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture presented their experiences in implmentation of their projects within the Measures 2.1. Town Twinning (project “United in diversity”); 2.2. Network of Towns (project “EYE-Net”) and 2.3. Civil society projects (project “Optimizing of volunteer services in times of refugee crisis”).
 
The workshop was attended by 37 participants – representatives of the CSOs, local authority units, cultural, educational and scientific institutions from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Srbia. They had the opportunity to present their organizations and project ideas and establish partnerships in order to continue working together on the development of project ideas after the workshop and potentially apply for the upcoming call, with the deadline for all measures September 1, 2020.

The main priorities of the Europe for Citizens Program consider contribution to better understanding of the Union, its history and differences as well as to promote the European citizenship including strengthening the civic and democratic participation on the European Union level. The specific priorities of the Program are to raise awareness of the Union’s memory, common history and values, and the objectives of promoting peace, its values and well-being of its peoples by stimulating debate, reflection and the development of networks. Particular emphasis is placed on fostering democratic and civic participation at Union level, developing a civic understanding of the Union’s policy-making process and promoting social and intercultural engagement and volunteering at Union level.
