The City of Zagreb included in the OGP Initiative at the local level

The City of Zagreb has joined the Open Government Partnership Initiative (OGP Initiative) as the member of the Open Local Government programme (OGP Local) on the 16 April 2024.

OGP Initiative has selected 55 new members of the OGP Local, among which is the City of Zagreb, as the first local self-government unit from Croatia.
 
The new local members of the OGP Initiative have been chosen from the group of 138 registered on the basis of proposed contribution to the principles of transparency, citizens’ inclusion and fight against corruption, i.e. improving the work of public authorities and empowering citizens and civil society.
 
Through active participation in the Programme, the City of Zagreb, with the partnership support of the Gong Association, will support and promote the Declaration on Open Government. By participating in the OGP Local Initiative, Zagreb will increase transparency through improved access to information on activities and decisions of the City Government. This will ensure preconditions for the citizens’ active participation in democratic processes. In the same time, the city administration will encourage citizens’ participation in the decision-making processes, including them in the creation of policies that reflect their real needs and aspirations. Also, the city administration will ensure responsibility to the citizens through the implementation of the measures aimed at increasing responsibility in using public resources and public services provision.
 
The City of Zagreb has so far implemented a number of projects which has increased transparency and citizens participation in the decision-making processes (for example: e-Public discussions, e-Initiatives, Solar potential, Open Data Portal, Open budget and Whistle-blower.
 
By including to the OGP Local, the City of Zagreb proves its commitment to the open government principles, as well as to the citizens’ participation and cooperation with non-governmental stakeholders. In addition, the City of Zagreb plans to contribute to the OGP Initiative with its so far experience and good practices as well as to active participate to the Initiative on the promotion, improvement  and participation of open government principles.
 
The Open Government Partnership has initiate on 2016 the pilot programme of including the local self-government units to the Initiative. Following the positive results, the Open Local Government Programme (OGP Local) was created, which welcomes new members every two years since 2018.
