Participation of the Republic of Croatia in “Europe for Citizens” programme

Croatian Government adopted the Decision on Concluding a Memorandum on the Understanding for Participation of the Republic of Croatia in the Europe for Citizens programme for the period between 2007 and 2013 on the 258th session held on 7 September 2007.

The programme will enable funding of four types of activities:
  • “Active Citizens for Europe”, activity which directly involves citizens, through projects of town-twinning or through other aspects of citizens' projects;
  • „Active Civil Society for Europe”, activity targeted at civil society organizations around Europe receiving grants based on their operating programmes or trans-national projects;
  • „Together for Europe”, activities that include citizens at the level of Europe for the purpose of improving the visibility of EU activity and getting Europe closer to its citizens;
  • „Active European Remembrance”, the activity that commemorates the victims of Nazism and Stalinism.

The programme objectives are encouraging citizens' participation, allowing them to discuss and exchange opinions on the EU, strengthen European identity, develop a sense of belonging to the EU in citizens and promote intercultural dialogue among citizens.
This Community programme is of a centralized type – it is implemented by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/index.htm, and the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs was appointed to implement the programme.
