In the world flooded with vast amounts of information from different sources, polarising messages and unverified and fake news spread quickly through social media and often hamper access to timely, relevant and accurate information. While classic media are losing influence in creation of public attitudes and guiding social processes, fake information are becoming and increasing challenge for public communication and democratic processes. There is more expressing need for legal regulation of dissemination of misinformation, such as the EU Law on digital services, as well for media and infromation literacy. These issues will address the panel debate on „Prevention of dissemination of false information“, which will consider how and why disinformation occurs; who is the most subject to them and how we can protect ourselves against the influence of false news and how to create a balanced system in which regulation will not trigger censorship of free meda and undermine the rights of EU citizens.
